
Erwin Schrödinger gave mathematical life to superposition in 1926, writing down an equation where a cat could be both alive and dead until the box is opened. His idea grew from Louis de Broglie's earlier insight that particles behave like waves.
Before measurement, a particle resembles a smeared probability cloud. When we try to catch it, the cloud collapses into one point. An example is the double slit: a single electron flies through both at once, creating a wave pattern on the screen, but any attempt to peek destroys the pattern and leaves only a dot.
