Physicists have developed a method that allows strings to exist in worlds where the number of dimensions slightly deviates from 26.

The strings of the universe sound best in 26-dimensional space. But physicists have figured out how to make them 'sing' even with slightly fewer dimensions — like a detuned guitar. This helps explain why we see only 4 dimensions, even though the theory insists on more.

🎯 Bosonic string theory requires exactly 26 dimensions, superstring theory — 10. This new work for the first time makes it possible to study theories with a slightly different number of dimensions, down to fractional ones like 25.999.
