American theoretical physicist, who together with Raman Sundrum created the model of warped extra dimensions (the Randall–Sundrum model), which offers a solution to the hierarchy problem in particle physics. Her work links particle physics, cosmology, and string theory, in particular explaining the weakness of gravity.

Biography

Lisa Randall was born in 1962 in New York. She received her education at Harvard University, earning her PhD there. She taught at MIT and Princeton, and is currently a professor at Harvard. Author of popular physics books. Member of the National Academy of Sciences. Actively involved in popularizing science.

Key discoveries

Randall–Sundrum model (1999) – suggests the existence of one (RS-1) or more (RS-2) extra spatial dimensions
warped along anti-de Sitter space. The warped geometry allows gravity to vary significantly across the extra dimension
explaining
why it is weaker than the other interactions. The model predicts excitations with masses at the TeV scale
accessible at colliders.
