Argentine theoretical physicist, who proposed the AdS/CFT correspondence (Maldacena conjecture), which links string theory in anti-de Sitter space with conformal field theory on its boundary. This revolutionary discovery made it possible to study strongly interacting quantum systems through gravity and vice versa.

Biography

Received his PhD from Princeton University in 1996. Worked at Harvard, and since 2001 has been a professor at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton. Recipient of numerous awards, including the Lorentz Medal, the Gruber Prize in Cosmology, and the Fundamental Physics Prize.
