Raman Sundrum

Biography

Raman Sundrum was born in 1964 in India. He studied in India (IIT Kanpur) and then in the USA (Yale University). He worked at Boston University, Johns Hopkins University, and is now a professor at the University of Maryland. In addition to the Randall–Sundrum model, he contributed to technicolor theory and composite Higgs models.

Key discoveries

• Randall–Sundrum model (1999) – joint work
• proposing a mechanism of warped spacetime in extra dimensions to solve the hierarchy problem. In the RS-2 variant with even one infinite extra dimension, gravity is effectively localized on the brane. Technicolor theory and ideas about the pseudo-Goldstone nature of the Higgs boson.
