A quantum system reaches calm faster if you give it a good shake beforehand.

Hot water sometimes freezes faster than cold—this is the Mpemba effect. In the quantum world, a similar trick works at the particle level: the greater the chaos, the faster the system calms down. Scientists captured this effect in a model using machine learning.

🎯 Aristotle described the rapid freezing of heated water, but the effect was named after Tanzanian schoolboy Erasto Mpemba: in 1963, he noticed that hot ice cream freezes faster.
