Six charged atoms form a crystal that can snap between two shapes, like a transformer molecule. By changing the trap, physicists made it switch and filmed this dance. Such an ion mime could become the basis for molecular switches in quantum devices.

🎯 The quality of gasoline depends on the shape of molecules: of the 18 isomers of octane, some burn smoothly, others cause knocking. The engine literally feels the difference between atomic rearrangements.
