An ordinary fridge is noisy, eats electricity, and uses harmful refrigerant. What if, instead of a compressor, we used a magnet? A new alloy of iron, nickel, and manganese cools itself when the magnetic field is removed. This is a step toward silent, eco-friendly fridges of the future.
