Physicists have figured out how to amplify Zitterbewegung — a century-old prediction by Dirac — using vortex electron beams.

The quantum jitter of an electron, predicted by Dirac, remained unseen for almost 100 years — it's billions of times smaller than an atom. But by twisting the electron into a spiral and mixing two quantum states, the tremor can be drastically amplified. This trick will pave the way for observing relativistic effects in the microworld.

🎯 Beyond the jitter, the Dirac equation predicted antimatter. When Dirac first saw solutions with negative energy, he proposed that all negative-energy states are filled with electrons, forming a "Dirac sea", and the holes in this sea are positrons.
