A neural network with smart 'lazy' attention speeds up collider data analysis by tens of times.

At the Large Hadron Collider, myriads of particles are born, and separating the wheat from the chaff is no easy task. A new AI transformer with 'lazy' attention does it ten times faster by ignoring unimportant interactions — without missing the essence. The technology will be useful for hunting new particles.

🎯 The top quark is the heaviest known elementary particle, with a mass roughly equal to that of a whole tungsten atom, but it decays in 10^−25 seconds, not having time to bind with anything.
