Streams of invisible particles from space allow more accurate measurements of atmospheric density and early warnings of cyclones.

Every second, hundreds of invisible arrows from space — muons — fly through you. Their number changes with air density. Scientists figured out how to use these particles to detect brewing hurricanes in advance — and now even a small detector will improve forecasts. Space is becoming our meteorologist.

🎯 A muon is a heavy version of the electron, living for two millionths of a second. But thanks to time dilation from relativity, it manages to reach Earth, though it should have decayed almost instantly.
