Each merger is a strike on a colossal cosmic gong. From the decay and overtones of gravitational waves, we gauge the tension of the fabric of space. The Cosmic Explorer and Einstein Telescope detectors will measure curvature to an accuracy of 0.029—and if it's not zero, the standard model will crack. We are learning to hear the shape of the cosmos.
