A new theory explains the Moon's chemical resemblance to Earth: in an ocean of molten rock, dense rocks sank and lighter ones rose.

The Moon is almost Earth’s isotopic twin, though it formed from the debris of an alien planet. The riddle solves simply: as the lunar magma ocean solidified, Theia’s heavy rocks sank, while Earth’s lighter ones floated up and hardened on top. So our satellite is just a pretender with an extraterrestrial gut.
