The law is used in astronomy to determine the temperature of distant stars: the spectrum is measured, the maximum is found, and the temperature is calculated using the formula. It is also used in thermal imagers and pyrometry. For example, a thermal imager non-contact measures body temperature by infrared radiation; the peak radiation of a human (about 36°C) lies in the long-wave IR range (about 9-10 µm), and the device captures this.
