The Moon acts like a gravitational microphone: its thick crust in some places amplifies spacetime ripples dozens of times. Scientists have modeled where the effect is strongest — on the highlands near the South Pole–Aitken basin. This data will help choose the perfect spot for a future lunar observatory capable of hearing the mergers of distant black holes.

🎯 The South Pole–Aitken crater is the largest impact basin in the Solar System with a diameter of 2500 km. Its rims are higher than the Himalayas, and the crust here is thicker than anywhere else on the Moon.
