Light is hard to catch and hold. Scientists have created an optical buffer the size of a fiber optic spool that 'freezes' photons for 18 microseconds, as if light gets stuck in a mirror maze. It works at room temperature and loses almost no signal. This will help build the quantum internet.

🎯 Almost all intercontinental communication operates in the 1530–1565 nm range — the only one where fiber optic glass is so transparent that a signal can travel hundreds of kilometers without amplification.
