Alexander Holevo

1943– · Quantum information, Mathematical physics
Russian mathematician and physicist, one of the pioneers of quantum information theory. He proved the theorem on the capacity of a quantum channel (the Holevo bound), which determines the maximum amount of classical information that can be extracted from a quantum state. His works laid the foundations of quantum communication and cryptography.

Biography

He graduated from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT). He works at the Steklov Mathematical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences. He is a winner of international awards, including the Shannon Award (2016) and the Dirac Medal (2025, jointly). He is a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences. He is the author of the fundamental monograph 'Introduction to Quantum Information Theory'.
