Born in Haifa, Israel. Studied physics at Cambridge, received his doctorate from Wolfson College, Oxford. Began thinking about quantum computing in the 1970s, and in 1985 published the revolutionary paper 'Quantum Theory, the Church–Turing Principle and the Universal Quantum Computer'. He is a visiting professor at Oxford University and one of the founders of the Centre for Quantum Computation. Author of popular books 'The Fabric of Reality' and 'The Beginning of Infinity', in which he expounds his vision of science and progress.
