The light of the cool star TRAPPIST-1 turned out to be deceptive: astronomers' standard models predicted strong signatures of iron and water in it, but telescopes barely see them. It's all about how molecules collide in the thin atmosphere — much more gently than in the Sun. Revising the rules of the game will help search for life more accurately on planets around such stars.

🎯 TRAPPIST-1 is so cool that its temperature is only about 2500°C — half as hot as the Sun. If it were in the Sun's place, Earth would receive less light than Pluto does now.
