It turns out that on planets without life, carbon monoxide can accumulate to lethal levels simply due to the faint light of the star. And formaldehyde — the basis for future living cells — is best born around hot stars. Now telescopes can guess where the ingredients of life are hiding, just by the composition of the air.

🎯 On lifeless planets, carbon monoxide can build up to levels hundreds of times higher than Earth's — all because of the star's light characteristics.
