Tidal forces melt entire planets, forging lava oceans with waves kilometers high.

Some planets have oceans of molten rock. Turns out, if the orbit is just slightly oval, the insides melt, and giant waves roam the lava. They collide, creating unpredictable heat spots. Such a planet flickers like an unsteady flame and can be liquid all the way through.

🎯 The temperature of these lava oceans is higher than in a smelting furnace: around 3000°C.
