For the first time, astrophysicists have suggested that superradiance — a collective atomic flare — could light up the center of the Galaxy. The prime suspects: hydrogen and positronium.

Billions of atoms at the center of the Galaxy can simultaneously 'fire' light, like a giant natural laser. These flashes, predicted by a new theory, will help us peer into the vicinity of a black hole without risking space missions.

🎯 Positronium lives just 125 picoseconds — about one eight-billionth of a second. But in superradiant mode, it manages to dump as much energy as an ordinary atom would emit over hours.
