The TESS telescope recorded 24 comet transits in front of the star RZ Psc, revealing their sizes: 1 to 7 km.

500 light-years away, the TESS telescope caught 24 fleeting 'eclipses': comets streaking across the face of the star RZ Psc. Their sizes obey the same celestial law as the icy boulders of the Kuiper Belt: many tiny, few large. If the EVE telescope launches, we'll be able not only to count such comets by the hundreds but also to determine what they're built from.

🎯 Some of these comets may be composed of graphite—the same material as pencil lead—and others of olivine, like that found in gemstones.
