In late October 2025, the Europa Clipper and Hera spacecraft will find themselves inside the tail of Comet 3I/ATLAS.

In late October, two interplanetary stations will ‘dive’ into the tail of a comet that arrived from another star. This is the first opportunity in history to ‘touch’ extrasolar material directly in space. Instruments will record how an invisible plume of particles envelops the probes, telling us about the chemistry of distant worlds.

🎯 Comet 3I/ATLAS was discovered in 2025—it’s only the fourth interstellar object ever spotted by humans, after the asteroid ‘Oumuamua.
