Scientists turned frequencies into floors and got a single photon to hop between them.

An ordinary photon gets stuck on one frequency like a car in a traffic jam. But physicists rigged an 'elevator' out of a superconducting ring: now a single photon can hop across frequency floors, wander randomly, or roll in one direction without stopping. This is a step toward programmable quantum simulators.

🎯 The 16-meter cable length isn’t random: it set the spacing between frequency floors at about 10 MHz so they could be resolved and controlled individually.
