Astronomers used a genealogical method to trace the evolution of stars in different parts of the galaxy.

Stars, like people, carry chemical pedigrees. Astronomers built their “family trees” from spectra and found: in galactic centers, star birth was turbulent, while on the edges, it was calm and steady. This is a new key to decoding the history of the Milky Way and distant worlds.

🎯 Some of the Milky Way’s oldest stars contain almost no heavy elements, as if frozen in the era of the early Universe.
