Around a young star in the Orion Nebula, a disk swirls where planets are born. The Webb telescope has spotted heavy water ice there for the first time—instead of hydrogen, it contains deuterium. This water carries a memory of its journey through space. The deuterium-to-hydrogen ratio turned out to be record-high, hinting at how Earth got its oceans.

🎯 Every liter of seawater hides a few drops of heavy water. It tastes slightly sweet but is harmless.
