Using MIRI on JWST, astronomers glimpsed individual young stars in the heart of Centaurus A for the first time — 928 newborns hidden in dusty cocoons.

In the center of Centaurus A, right under the nose of the supermassive black hole, the Webb telescope counted 928 newborn stars hidden in dusty cocoons. It's like discovering a nursery in a steel mill. The black hole's jet had nothing to do with it — the stars are born from gas brought in by an ancient merger. Peeking into these stellar nurseries, we might understand how galaxies quietly grow up while their cores roar.

🎯 Centaurus A is the closest radio galaxy to us: a mere 3.8 megaparsecs away. If the human eye could see radio waves, its giant jets would outshine the full Moon in the sky.
