Scientists figured out why the light from the most powerful cosmic explosion was rapidly losing energy: it was playing billiards with electrons.

One of the brightest explosions in the universe produced mysterious light patterns. It turned out that a particle 'billiards' creates them: photons are born from annihilation and lose energy in collisions, like balls. This explained why the glow changed. Perhaps in the future we will be able to peer into the very heart of such cataclysms.

🎯 The gamma-ray burst GRB 221009A was so bright that for a few seconds its afterglow could be seen even through amateur telescopes — a record for such events.
