Light Trapped in a Flat Trap
Light usually tends to scatter in all directions, like splashes from a thrown stone. But it can be caught in an invisible cage where it swirls in place, losing almost no energy. Physicists have built just such a cage using the magnetic material CrSBr — a layered crystal that can be split into flakes just a few atoms thick.

Light Beam on a Snap
A flashlight beam in fog spreads out within a couple of meters. Light particles scatter in all directions, like a crowd in a square. But sometimes they can march in formation — without spreading, without mixing. That's exactly the kind of march achieved in a tiny perovskite crystal. The crystal was placed between two mirrors.
