Abstract

Usually, we view the Sun “from the side,” because we’re in the same plane as its equator. Now, for the first time, the Solar Orbiter probe has looked down on the Sun’s poles from above, like peeking at the top of a spinning top. It measured the magnetic fields there, and it turns out the picture is different at the south and north poles. What other secrets do the star’s polar caps hide?
