Abstract

Scientists have for the first time achieved real-time quantum teleportation with a non-Gaussian state. They prepared an entangled pair of light pulses by subtracting a photon (photon subtraction) and developed an orchestrator system that synchronizes measurements with high precision. This allows instantaneously “pointing” to the desired state, like a camera flash freezing motion. The achieved fidelity was 0.973 — an almost perfect match with expectations. This result will speed up the development of quantum repeaters and ultrasensitive sensors.

The idea of quantum teleportation was proposed by Charles Bennett and realized by Anton Zeilinger. It uses entanglement — when two particles are in sync, like two sheets of paper that instantly copy the same drawing. But earlier, the "ink" would blur, ruining the blueprint. Now physicists used light with a special ripple (non-Gaussian states) that doesn’t smudge the lines. The copy’s accuracy is 97.3%. And here’s a surprise: the original disappears in the process, as if the sheet becomes blank after sending the blueprint.

Although teleportation requires photons (light particles), information does not outpace light — a separate signal is needed, like a delivery notification.

A fast controller selects successful events, and the data goes to measurements. This paves the way for quantum repeaters that stretch connections over thousands of kilometers, and for powerful quantum computers.
