Twisted Solar Loop Reveals the Secret of Magnetic Explosions
A tightly twisted phone cord snaps and scatters sparks. Magnetic fields on the Sun behave the same way: they twist, break, and reconnect, powering flares. For the first time, astronomers have witnessed this process directly. One loop was twisted by 540 degrees — one full turn and then half again. That’s three times more than previously thought possible.
The Underground Guardian of Purity
A huge pool of clear liquid is hidden deep underground. Inside, there is nothing but a pristine 'broth' that flashes with faint light when an invisible particle flies through. This is the JUNO detector—20,000 tons of liquid scintillator built to hunt for neutrinos. The main enemy of such a hunt is not darkness but its own noise.

Vacancies line up and open the way for current
A transparent film of bismuth tungstate sits on a substrate and does not conduct electricity. Three minutes in a cloud of nitrogen plasma, and it turns black, with resistance dropping by a factor of a billion.
