Magnetic Vortices Without the Usual Rules
The crystal resembles a layered pie: alternating layers of europium, gallium, and aluminum atoms stack in a strict order. Usually, such materials shouldn't surprise us with magnetism: they are too symmetric. But inside this crystal, magnetic vortices were found, resembling tiny whirlpools that arrange into neat lattices.

Light Trapped in a Tiny Cage
In an ordinary room, light vanishes the moment you switch off the lamp. In a tiny silicon nitride cavity, a photon can bounce between the walls 80,000 times before it gets lost. It's like a ball thrown into a room that rebounds off the walls with almost no loss of speed.
