Abstract

Neutrinos from the Sun change their flavor (type) under the influence of matter — this is the Mikheyev–Smirnov–Wolfenstein (MSW) effect. Directly observing the energy transition in the survival probability of electron neutrinos was hindered by background from muons. A new technique for suppressing this background at the JUNO observatory will allow gathering statistics with a significance above 4σ over 10 years. This will become a vital foundation for future multi-billion-dollar experiments studying neutrino oscillations.
