Abstract

This review recaps progress in quantum coherence research in photosynthesis and bird magnetoreception. Near-100% energy transfer efficiency in plants stems from quantum coherence, probed via 2D electronic spectroscopy. Theoretical approaches include the generalized Bloch-Redfield theory and hierarchical equations of motion. Quantum simulations across various platforms have added to our understanding. Animal navigation mechanisms like radical pairs and magnetite are also dissected. Quantum effects are inspiring artificial coherent devices for efficient energy transport and better sensors.
