A Dust Ring Where Giants Are Born
Around the young star MWC 480, a flat disk of gas and dust whirls, like a giant carousel where, instead of horses, you have building blocks for planets. Radio telescopes peered into this disk at different wavelengths, from millimeter to centimeter, and saw exactly where the dust accumulates and how large the grains are.

Stars and Their Disks: The Carbon Puzzle
Two very small, cool stars, similar to the famous TRAPPIST-1, reside in the young Upper Scorpius star cluster. They are only 5–10 million years old — by cosmic standards, mere infants. Each is surrounded by a disk of gas and dust from which planets may eventually assemble.
A Quieting Fountain: Evolution of Protoplanetary Disk Winds as Seen by JWST
Seventy-two protoplanetary disks, swirling cocoons of cosmic dust and gas, came under the gaze of the MIRI instrument on JWST. Most of them shoot outflows into space: dense conical structures and narrow, high-speed jets. They blast like fountains. This process is not accidental.
