A Crystal Where Electrons Dance to the Tune of Magnets
The EuAuBi crystal is like a layered cake of europium, gold, and bismuth atoms. When cooled to near absolute zero, three different magnetic patterns appear in sequence, like a kaleidoscope pattern shifting with a slight turn. First, the magnetic atoms align strictly in antiphase, then they tilt slightly, and at even lower temperatures, a third order emerges.

How a 'metallic spiderweb' turns carbon dioxide into fuel
A factory smokestack releases carbon dioxide into the air, and nearby stands a unit that captures this gas and, under sunlight, assembles ethylene molecules from it — the feedstock for plastic bags and pipes. Materials scientists have brought this scenario closer by modifying a crystal of the semimetal PdSn4 with a small amount of platinum.

Bubbles in Cosmic Foam: A New Look at the Breathing of Stars
A pot of boiling porridge: bubbles burst, steam escapes, and everything gets mixed up. Massive stars in giant gas clouds behave in much the same way. Their radiation and stellar winds blow out enormous cavities, molecular bubbles, scattering material all around.
