Hunting for Light from Black Hole Crumbs

Black hole mergers can create tiny mini black holes that quickly evaporate, flashing with gamma-ray light. A search for such signals in the Fermi telescope archive came up empty, but it allowed to rule out certain masses for these crumbs.

A New Record in the Search for Dark Matter

The first stage of ALPS II, a setup to search for axions—dark matter candidates—has concluded at DESY. No particles were detected, but the instrument's sensitivity proved 20 times better than previous records. The system is now being upgraded to boost accuracy another 100-fold.
