Daniel Greenberger

American theoretical physicist, known as one of the discoverers of the Greenberger–Horne–Zeilinger (GHZ) state — a multipartite entangled state that reveals radical contradictions between quantum mechanics and local realism without Bell inequalities. GHZ states have become a workhorse resource in quantum computing and communications.

Biography

He studied at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, received his PhD from the University of Illinois. He worked at the University of California, Berkeley, and the City College of New York, where he chaired the department. Collaborated with Anton Zeilinger. Winner of the Majorana Prize.

Key discoveries

💡 Greenberger started as a neutron physicist and only later became interested in quantum paradoxes. The GHZ state is sometimes called "Einstein's nightmare," because it undermines classical concepts even more than the EPR paradox.
